Guildford County School students achieve their best ever A Level Examinations this summer
Guildford County School is celebrating its best ever A level results, marking yet another year of excellent academic and personal achievements for students at the school, with over 68% of students achieving an A*-B, and a stunning 38% gaining an A* to A.
Overall, the students enjoyed a pass rate of over 99%. 87% of all grades were A*-C grades.
Individual successes were many, in a range of subject areas. This year five students achieved A*s in all of their subjects and a record sixteen students hold three or more As or better. Guildford County School is particularly proud of several outstanding individual results from students – Joseph Lockhart (A*, A*, A*, A*), Sushant Kc (A*, A*, A*), Sofia Mashanovich (A*, A*, A*), Kay Raftery (A*, A*, A*) and Tibet Scarlett (A*, A*, A*)
Helen Nurton, Director of Sixth Form said “I am delighted that our students have achieved such a fantastic set of results – the best ever. Their hard work and dedication has paid off and we wish them the best of luck for the future.”
All four County students who held Oxbridge offers have been successful. Felix Ginsberg has secured a place at Exeter College, Oxford, to read English, Ankit Kapoor is going to St John's College, Oxford, to also read English, Sushant Kc has secured a place at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, to study Engineering and Joseph Lockhart is going to Homerton College, Cambridge to read Physical Natural Sciences.
92% of students have secured places at leading universities and 45% to Russell Group Universities such as Exeter, Warwick, Edinburgh, amongst others.
Sixth Form numbers continue to rapidly increase at Guildford County School and Head teacher, Jack Mayhew, is proud of the vibrant community it has become, "Our warm congratulations to all students and to staff for their outstanding efforts in achieving these impressive A Level results. Knowing the inspiring breadth of many of our students’ achievements beyond the curriculum - in music, sport and charity work – this exam success is a true testament to their sheer energy and determination.”
The Farnham Road school, which has recently expanded its main school and has undergone significant investment in its buildings and premises, operates a mixed sixth form where the vast majority of students stay into the sixth form and attracts an increasing number of external students to its academic, vibrant and successful A level courses.
“Our students’ results today demonstrate that our Sixth Form is amongst the best in the county, improving year-on-year. We are delighted to see the further increase in university applications, with many students progressing to some of the best institutions in the country to study challenging courses. Our students deserve every credit for their hard work and dedication during their time in the Sixth Form. I wish them every success in their further studies and chosen career paths.”
